11. OBSERVATIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

11.1 Indonesia Basketball Association (IBA) has executed tremendous effort to achieve a spectacular success. The organisation was so complete that it befits the higher level of major FIBA Asia events. Some of the observations are mentioned below.

11.2 SEABA Office. By design the headquarters of Mahaka Club is located in the stadium, its office also served as the SEABA secretariat. It has the full facilities which includes computer, photocopy machine, fax and stationary etc.

11.3 TV Coverage. Production Room was fully equipped to provide TV coverage. The program was elaborate and systematic.

11.4 Press Room. Press Room was allotted for press conference. Coaches and players were interviewed at the end of every match.

11.5 Publicity and Advertisement. The promotion of any sport depends very much on publicity and advertisement. This aspect was under the direct influence of Mr. Erick Thohir, President SEABA. Apart from sponsors of A boards, Mass Media, the event also has a big column in sport magazine “ARENA” which is widely circulated.

11.6 Souvenir Magazine. In the absence of producing this issue, newsletter in lieu would suffice to capture the events for reference.

11.7 Score Table Equipment. The using of small worn out red flags as the team foul indicators, the plastic arrow for the jump ball situation for example, did not commensurate with the beautiful arena, with Hi-Tech equipment used. Hopefully, more updated devices would be looked into as replacement.

11.8 Security. Better security should be considered to cater for any untoward incident that may occur anytime during the tournament. There was no crowd control during the closing ceremony and the crowd was jamming the occasion during photo session.

11.9 Entertainment Program. This was well coordinated with the presentation of well synchronized pomp pomp dances. The basketball skills displayed by youth aging from 6 to 16 years was very entertaining to the public.

12. CONCLUSION

12.1 The tournament achieved tremendous conclusion in high note. It has cemented a solid launching pad for major international championships. On behalf of SEABA, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the Chairman and every member of the Organising Committee for their sacrifices in presenting the wonderful result. Money was not a problem and success was vitally coined as an inspiration for future endeavors.

12.2 Thank you for the close cooperation from the participating teams that ensured the smooth running of the competition. Also not forgetting to thank all the sponsors, TV and mass media for their generous contributions provided in publicity.

12.3 Finally, congratulations and best wishes to Philippines. Their splendid performance has gained the ticket to participate in the 18th Champions Cup in Iran.

Thank you “Peace Through Basketball”
